McKinstry Group Announces £16m Investment in Advanced Materials Recycling Facility

McKinstry Group £16m investment in a new recycling facility

McKinstry Group has announced a £16 million investment in a new 4,200m² materials recycling facility at its headquarters in Nutt's Corner, Co. Antrim, a significant milestone in the company's ongoing commitment to sustainable growth in the waste management sector.

The purpose-built facility, supported by a Green Capex Loan from Bank of Ireland, will specialise in the processing of construction, demolition and industrial (CD&I) materials. Designed with advanced automation and cutting-edge technology, the plant will enhance operational efficiency, maximise material recovery and further reduce waste to landfill.

Driving Sustainable, Scalable Growth

This major investment forms a key part of McKinstry Group's long-term strategy to deliver smarter, more transparent waste management solutions. The new facility will incorporate real-time waste monitoring systems, enabling improved reporting capabilities for both the business and its supply chain partners. The integration of advanced data tracking technology will allow customers greater visibility of their waste streams, supporting compliance, sustainability reporting and environmental performance targets.

"We are pleased to support McKinstry Group with this important green investment which will be transformative for their business, driving efficiencies through automation and delivering significant environmental benefits."

"At Bank of Ireland, we are working closely with our customers to help them achieve their sustainability-linked growth plans and we have access to a range of products and expertise to help companies, large and small, make positive investments towards a more sustainable future."

A Transformational Step for the Business

Darren McKinstry, Managing Director of McKinstry Group, described the project as a carefully considered investment aligned with the company's long-term vision.

"As a family business with decades of experience in this industry, our objective has been to develop a world-class materials recycling facility capable of meeting both our current and future requirements. This has been a carefully considered project as we have worked to identify partners who shared our vision and values."

"Bank of Ireland has been a valued financial partner for many years. They have consistently demonstrated a genuine understanding of our business, our ambitions and how they can support us in achieving our commercial and sustainability goals."

"This facility will be transformational, not only for our business but for the wider waste sector. We have collaborated closely with Kiverco and other key partners to realise a shared vision of creating one of the most innovative and efficient construction, demolition and industrial recycling plants in the industry. The advanced technology integrated throughout the new facility will provide real-time, waste-specific data, improving waste management practices and enhancing reporting capabilities across our entire supply chain."

— Darren McKinstry, Managing Director, McKinstry Group

The new facility positions McKinstry Group at the forefront of materials recycling in Northern Ireland, strengthening its ability to support customers with compliant and environmentally responsible waste solutions.

As the business continues to grow, the investment reflects its commitment to building long-term infrastructure that benefits customers, partners and the wider community, while contributing to a more sustainable future for Northern Ireland.

Due to be fully operational in April 2026, we look forward to sharing more updates on the new recycling facility as completion nears.
